Women's Soccer Visits Our Nation's Capital for a Sunday Showdown with Howard

DAWG BYTES
  • After an 0-2 start, UMBC picked up their first win of the season at Iona last Sunday. 
  • The Retrievers scored their first goal of the season shortly into the second period. After a through ball by senior defender Lauren Reid, senior midfielder Izzy Binko chipped it in for the only score of the contest.
  • UMBC led with 15 shots compared to 12 by the Gaels. Both teams took far more shots in the second half, each with 11 and 10, respectively.
  • All four starting defenders saw over 87 minutes of action each, and goalies Abby Cowles and Amara Codd played one half each. Each goalie had two saves. Iona held the lead in corner kicks, 6-3. 
  • Grad student Natasha Munro looks to play in her 40th career game against Drexel. 
  • Sophomore forward Payton Schenning is tied for 3rd in the America East in shots per game (3.00) and tied for 8th (1.33) in shots on goals per game.
  • The Retrievers' match against Drexel on Thursday evening was canceled (weather) and will not be re-scheduled.
 ABOUT THE BISON
  • Howard is coming off a 1-0 loss at Richmond last Sunday afternoon. The Spiders scored in the 13th minute and held on for the victory despite being outshot by a 15-9 margin.
  • Freshman forward Gabrielle Garcia-Terrell got off a game-high six shots, including three on goal against Richmond.
  • Howard has taken 65 shots compared to 34 by their opponents in the early season.
  • Sophomore striker Mimi Richards leads the Bison with three goals, including the game-winner against Saint Peter's on August. 15.
  • Senior forward Melea Earley has the other goal for the Bison this season.
  • Freshman goalie Nya-Grace Young has recorded the most minutes in net (180) and has a 1.00 goals against mark and a .778 save percentage.
SERIES HISTORY
  • UMBC has won all 12 meetings against the Bison dating back to their first meeting in 1988.
  • In their last matchup, the Dawgs came up with a 1-0 victory in Washington, D.C., on August 29, 2014.
  • The Retrievers are 5-0 versus Howard in Washington, D.C.
  • The Dawgs have outscored the Bison by a combined count of 38-3.
