Women's Soccer Announces Class of Newcomers

Class of 11 Expected to Provide Infusion of Talent

Baltimore - UMBC Head Women's Soccer Coach Rick Stainton announced a class of eleven newcomers who are expected to bring an infusion of talent to the program.
 
"A lot of work was put into our first complete recruiting class here at UMBC," said Stainton.  "I greatly appreciate the efforts of our staff and program in building the group.  Throughout the process, we seek student-athletes who have great character, are hard-working, and competitive.  This class has a lot of versatility and exhibits high levels of talent and success."
 
UMBC begins its pre-season in early August and will open the 2024 campaign on Sunday, August 18, against Towson at Retriever Soccer Park.
 
Incoming Class
 
Marley Besser, 
A three-time First Team B-South, First Team Ocean County, and First Team Press of Atlantic City selection.
Enjoyed a monster season in 2022, earning B-South Player of the Year accolades and being named a Shore Conference Player of the Year finalist. Was also an MVP candidate for Group 3 after earning Second Team Group 3 honors.
Earned Second Team All-Shore and Second Team Group 3 honors as a sophomore.
Scored the deciding goal in Lacey Township's South Jersey Group 3 sectional final in 2021. It was the first time the Lions had won the section since 1997.
Played at the club level for PDA Shore ECNL and helped lead the squad to four straight regional tournaments.
 
Zoe Brossman
A two-time team captain and two-time All-League First Team Suburban One selection.
Was selected as a Top 40 Player to Watch by phillyburbs.com in 2023.
Helped lead Council Rock South to the Suburban One League Championship in 2021.
Also lettered in lacrosse and was a two-time All-League First Team Suburban One pick.
A three-time ODP East Region selection.
Played at the club level for FC Bucks.
 
Amara Codd
A transfer from Coastal Carolina who did see action last season.
Placed in the top 150 of the 2023 IMG Academy & Top Drawer Soccer Class.
A four-year letter winner in soccer and captained the team all four years.
Named to the all-district first team for three straight years (2021, 2022, and 2023).
An all-area first-team selection (2021, 2022, and 2023).
An ICC Futures All-Star selection (2019).
Was an ECNL All-Conference first-team selection (2021) and captained the team for four years.
Competed for the East Region team during the ICC Futures International Champions Cup.
 
Iva Damyanova
Member of the U19 Bulgarian National Team.
2021 3A Maryland Soccer State Champion and Regional Champion at Mount Hebron.
2022 and 2023 3A State Soccer Finalist.
2021 and 2023 All-County Selection.
Also lettered in basketball and served as the team captain in 2022 and 2023. Participated in lacrosse in 2023 and 2024.
 
Riley Fredericks
Named to the 2021-21 Pinellas County All Conference First Team.
Captained St. Petersburg all four years.
Played at the club level for Tampa Bay United and the West Florida Flames.
 
Leen Jawhar
Scored 25 goals and added seven assists during her career at Mount Hebron.
2021 3A Maryland Soccer State Champion and Regional Champion.
2022 and 2023 3A State Soccer Finalist.
Named First Team All-County in 2022 and was an honorable mention pick in 2021.
Played at the club level for Baltimore Armour.
 
Kristiana Kolega
Four-year varsity starter at Herricks and captained the Highlanders last season.
Helped lead the squad to the Class AA Semifinals in 2022.
Named to the 2021 Nassau County All-Conference Team and was an honorable mention pick in 2022.
2022 and 2023 Newsday Top 100 Players on Long Island.
Played in both the 2022 and 2023 UEFA U17 Women's European Championship First and Final Qualifying Rounds as a member of the Croatia U17 Women's National Team.
Competed in the 2022 ECNL National Playoffs as a member of the SUSA FC ECNL club team.
 
Gabby Larson
Helped lead Moon Area to back-to-back WPIAL and state championships in 2021 and 2022.
Named to the All-Section and All-WPIAL Team in 2022.
Captained Moon in 2023.
Also lettered in basketball for two seasons and helped lead the squad to the state quarterfinals in 2022.
Played at the club level for Century United.
 
Regan Rubin
A transfer from the University of Nevada who made a pair of starts in 2023.
Scored the most goals at Upper Dublin as a sophomore and finished her junior and senior years as the team's assists leader.
Named Second Team All-League as a junior and senior.
Captained the squad as a senior.
Four-year letter winner in soccer.
Competed for FC Delco at the club level, collecting ECNL All-Conference honors during the 2020-21 season.
She previously competed in US Youth Soccer's Region 1 Girls ODP program. 
 
Maddie Schepers
A transfer from the University of Delaware, where she made 13 career starts.
Four-year member of the St. Mark's High School women's soccer team.
Three-time First Team All-State.
Was the top-ranked junior in the state in 2021.
Gatorade Player of the Year nominee in 2022 after being named a National All-American and the Delaware Player of the Year.
Tied the school record for most goals in a season with 38 goals as a freshman.
 
Rian Stainton
A transfer from Iona who made eight appearances in 2023.
A Second Team All A-South pick as well as a Third Team All Ocean County by NJ.com in 2022.
Helped lead PDA Shore Flash RL to back-to-back Northeast RL championships in 2021 and 2022. The squad won the New Jersey state championship in 2021.
