Nutile and Lundy lead Softball to Split on Saturday

Smithfield, R.I. -- Jerzie Nutile allowed just one run in 4.1 innings pitched and hit a two-run homer to help lead the UMBC Softball team to a 7-2 win over host Bryant to earn a doubleheader split on Friday. The Bulldogs took a tight, 2-1, contest in game one.

On the day, Amya Lundy went 3-for-5 with two RBI and a pair of walks. Erin Behel had a career-day in game two, going 3-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.

In the win, Ashley Della Guardia went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, while Macy Granzow drove in a pair and Amaya Carroll drove in a run of her own. Maggie Frisvold allowed a single unearned runs while striking out five to pick up the save.

Game 2:
  • Bryant took a 1-0 lead into the fourth, but UMBC jumped ahead with three unearned runs in the inning.
  • Della Guardia hit a one out single, followed by Nutile reaching on an error
  • With two outs, Behel tied the game on a single, and Granzow smacked a two-RBI single moments later to make it 3-1
  • In the bottom of the fifth, Frisvold entered with two in scoring positon and one out, but stranded both runners to keep the Dawgs up 3-1
  • In the top of the sixth, Behel singled with one out and her pinch-runner Jaedyn McKeon scored on a Carroll single
  • Lundy would then make it 5-1 with an RBI single of her own
  • Nutile hit a two-run homer in the top of the seventh to make it 7-1, before Bryant got an unearned run off an error in the bottom half of the inning
Game 1:

A sixth inning homer broke the tie and gave the hosts the win. Bryant scored on an error in the first, before Lundy tied it up with an RBI single in the fourth. Kya Matter took the tough luck loss, allowing just the one earned run on three hits while striking out five. Ella Squaires had a pair of hits and two stolen bases. Lyndsey Evix had the other hit for UMBC in the contest.

The regular season wraps-up with a noon game on Saturday.
