Frisvold Named America East Rookie of the Week; Softball Faces Towson on Wednesday

BOSTON -- UMBC Softball freshman Maggie Frisvold was named the America East Rookie of the Week, the Conference announced on Tuesday afternoon.

Frisvold pitched a complete game two-hitter and hit the game-winning homer in UMBC's 3-2 win at UAlbany. In the contest, she struck out five and walked just one.

The Retrievers make the short trip up the beltway to face Towson on Wednesday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.

On Sunday, the Retrievers won game one, 3-2, before dropping the second game, 2-1 in walk-off fashion at UAlbany.

In game one, Amya Lundy had an RBI double in the first inning, and classmate Jolie Torrens had an RBI single in the third. Amaya Carroll had a pair of hits and scored a run.  Frisvold's first career homer came in the fourth to put the Dawgs up 3-0, and they would hold on to win.

Jerzie Nutile homered in the second inning of game two, but that would be the only run UMBC would score. The Great Danes would score on a sacrifice fly in the third, and then win in the bottom of the seventh when the first two runners had infield singles, and the lead runner would score from second as the Retrievers turned a double play.
