Maggie Frisvold tossed her first career complete game and hit the eventual game-winning homer as the UMBC Softball team split with UAlbany on Sunday afternoon.
The Retrievers won game one, 3-2, before dropping the second game, 2-1 in walk-off fashion.
Frisvold allowed just two hits in the contest (a pair of solo homers), while striking out five and walking one. Her first career homer came in the fourth to put the Dawgs up 3-0, and they would hold on to win.
Amya Lundy had an RBI double in the first inning, and classmate
Jolie Torrens had an RBI single in the third.
Amaya Carroll had a pair of hits and scored a run.
Jerzie Nutile homered in the second inning of game two, but that would be the only run UMBC would score. The Great Danes would score on a sacrifice fly in the third, and then win in the bottom of the seventh when the first two runners had infield singles, and the lead runner would score from second as the Retrievers turned a double play. Nutile took the loss in relief, but had a pair of hits at the plate, as did
Ella Squaires.Torrens, Carroll and
Ashley Della Guardia also had hits for the Retrievers.
Kya Matter allowed just one run in 5.1 innings of work, striking out four.
UMBC returns to action at Towson on Wednesday afternoon.
