Women's Lacrosse Set to Battle Binghamton In America East Semifinals on Friday

AMERICA EAST TOURNAMENT HISTORY
  • The Retrievers have never won an America East Championship since joining the league in 2004
  • UMBC won the regular-season championship in 2006.

  • Head Coach Amy Slade (12th season) is 93-88 as the Retrievers' head coach. Slade is 33-36 in AE contests.
LAST TIME OUT
  • Junior midfielder Katana Nelson scored a game-high four goals, but the host UMBC women's lacrosse team lost a 14-13 overtime decision in the regular-season finale against the Binghamton Bearcats on Saturday afternoon at UMBC Stadium.
  • A victory would have secured the America East regular-season championship and the top seed in the upcoming conference tournament for UMBC, who finished 9-5 and 4-2 in the league. The Retrievers have secured a berth in the conference tournament for the first time since 2022.
  • Nelson scored three of her four goals in the final half, while redshirt junior Kolby Weedon and junior Grace Bruce recorded hat tricks. Weedon and sophomore defender Ella Killian both caused a career-high four turnovers.
 DAWG BITES
  • Junior attacker Grace Bruce leads the Dawgs with 48 goals and ranks third in the league and 28th nationally with 3.43 goals per game. Bruce is also seventh in points per game (3.71). Bruce has nine hat-tricks on the season to lead the Retrievers. She has scored four or more goals seven times this season.
  • Junior attacker Kolby Weedon ripped her 100th career goal in UMBC's victory against UAlbany. Weedon is ninth in the America East with 3.36 points per game and ranks 11th on the circuit with 2.50 goals per game.
  • Junior midfielder Katana Nelson has moved up to fifth in the conference with 2.92 goals per game. She has six hat-tricks on the season.
  • Bruce, Weedon and Nelson are the highest scoring group in the America East with 121 combined goals.
  • Senior attacker Mary Ellis is third on the circuit and 43rd in the NCAA with 1.86 assists per game. Ellis has at least one assist in 12 of 14 contests and leads the squad with 26 helpers this season. Her 26 assists this season are the fourth highest in program history, and she is just two shy of tying Heather Kormanik ('98) for third.
  • Junior attacker Lauryn Warfield is second in the America East with 5.77 draw controls per game and is 30th in the NCAA.
  • Senior defender Kennedy Evans is tied for the UMBC's all-time mark with 71 caused turnovers.
  • Sophomore defender Emily Renehan was named the America East Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, January 8, after she caused four turnovers and picked up three ground balls versus UAlbany.
  • Senior goalie Isabella Fontana leads the league in goals against average (9.74) and is third in saves percentage (.425). For the second time in her career, she was named the America East Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, April 15. Fontana is 21st in the country in goals against average.
  • The Retrievers are eighth in the country with a .644 draw control percentage.
A LOOK AT THE BEARCATS
  • Binghamton is the hottest team in the America East as they have won six straight contests.
  • The Bearcats disposed of Bryant, 20-8, last weekend on their home turf. Olivia Muscolino scored four goals while Carla Curth, Gabriella Meli, Madison Murphy, and Emma Blloshmi each recorded hat-tricks.
  • Muscolino is fourth in the league with 2.94 goals per game and points (4.00 per game).
  • Abigail Carroll is 10th on the circuit with 2.56 goals per game.
  • Sofia Salgado is third in the league with a 10.75 goals-against average and is fourth in saves percentage (.423).
 SERIES NOTES
  • UMBC has won 16-of-21 meetings against the Bearcats.
  • Binghamton has won three straight contests against the Dawgs, including their overtime win in Baltimore this past April 20.
 UP NEXT
