Last Meet Recap, JMU Invitational & Bison Outdoor Classic
In Harrisonburg, VA, at Sentara Park of James Madison University, The 4x100 meter sprinted through the line as a team at 41.39. The time is a season's best for the relay, good enough for second overall for last weekend, and positions them second within the America East. The 4x400 relay finished third overall with a team time of 3:16.57, keeping that particular relay first in the AE.
Senior Ali Bowens cruised to a 10.44 time to take second overall, giving himself an identical ranking in the conference. Graduate student Michael Arnold earned gold in the 400-meter hurdles, breaking the tape at 53.11 to maintain his top seed in the AE for the event. Junior Marquis Miller kept his second overall seed in the conference, placing sixth in the 400-meter dash at 48.39. Senior Jayo Adegboyo rises the America East rankings, with a time of 49.17 in the one-lap event for eighth overall (10th AE). Sophomore Pelumi Olujumu crossed the line not too far behind at 49.74s, making all their times a season's best.
In the 1500-meter run, junior Cameron Hindle finished first (4:03.99), impacting his teammates' performances as well. The effort inspired classmates Tyler Dregley (4:08.08) and Will Sakowicz (4:09.18) to make their collegiate debuts last Saturday.
Results in the 200-meter dash at JMU included sophomore Fred-Morgan Iheanacho placing 12th overall at 22.23, a new personal best, while classmate Pelumi Olujumu made a collegiate debut of 23.18s. In the field this past weekend at Sentara Park, junior Ibra Khairat leaped to first in the long jump, holding onto third overall in the America East with a 14.74-meter jump. Men's discus throw saw sophomore Aiden Walker keep his top-five seed in the conference with a silver finish today at 50.09 meters.
UMBC Head Coach David Bobb had a small distance group competing in Lewisburg, PA, at Christy Mathewson Memorial Stadium (Bucknell University) this past Saturday and Sunday. Senior Mark Unger was the only entry on the Retrievers within the Invite portion of events, coming away with the best time at 3:56.52s in the 1500-meter run. Thomas Foulkes, fell short of a personal best by less than a second in the 1500-meter event. Foulkes time of 4:01.14 would earn him nineteenth overall for the first day in a wildly competitive distance meet. Performances from this past weekend that keep them in the running for team points and podium positioning come May at the America East Outdoor Championships here at UMBC.Â
Last Time At The Morgan State Legacy
The UMBC men's track and field program was split around this time last year as well, represented across Charm City as numerous Retrievers showed up at the Morgan State and Johns Hopkins/Loyola meets. Michael Arnold went first in the 400 hurdles, with alum Nicolas Alphonse crossing right after. Arnold's mark of 51.52 was a personal best for that time period. Donovan Young capped the top performers at Morgan State, capturing fourth place in the triple jump at 13.82m.
