The UMBC Softball team will close the non-conference portion of its schedule when it travels down the road to face Maryland on Wednesday night at 6 p.m.

Last time out, freshman Haley Luginbill hit her first career homer, but the UMBC Softball team dropped a 4-3 decision to visiting UMass Lowell on Sunday.

Luginbill came in to pinch hit with two outs in the bottom of the sixth, and promptly blasted a two-run shot over the wall in left to halve the deficit.

In the seventh, Kya Matter singled to lead off the inning and her pinch runner, Jaedyn McKeon, would eventually score on an RBI fielder's choice by Amaya Carroll, but the game would end when a blast to dead center was caught at the wall

Squaires slapped three hits, Matter had a pair, while Ashley Della Guardia also singled.

Scouting Maryland:

• Maryland currently has a 17-24 overall record and are 4-10 in conference. 
• The last time the Retrievers faced the Terrapins was on April 19, 2023, where the Terrapins won 9-0 in five innings.
• Jaeda McFarland leads the Terrapins with a .356 batting average, 34 runs,11 doubles, and 31 RBI.
• Diamond Williams has a .336 batting average, 13 home runs, and 36 RBI.
• Courtney Wyche leads the pitching staff with a 2.88 ERA and striking out 174 batters.
