BALTIMORE – Ashley Della Guardia blasted a three-run homer to help the UMBC Softball team split with visiting UMass Lowell on Saturday.
UMBC took game one, 7-0, before UMass Lowell took game two, 9-2.
Kya Matter pitched a complete game one-hitter with five strikeouts in game one, while Della Guardia drove in four runs in the win.
Emily Riggs went 2-for-2 with a pair of RBI, while
Jerzie Nutile added an RBI of her own.
Ella Squaires went 3-for-4 with two runs scored,
Amaya Carroll went 2-for-3 and
Amya Lundy had a hit and scored two runs.
In game two, four errors doomed the Retrievers as the River Hawks plated five unearned runs.
Emily Riggs had an RBI single, while Matter added an RBI groundout.
The two teams will play the rubber game tomorrow at noon.
