Women's Lacrosse Seeking Fourth Straight Victory at Vermont on Saturday

A Win Would Give the Dawgs First 4-Game AE Winning Streak Ever

ABOUT THE RETRIEVERS
  • Junior attacker Grace Bruce leads the Dawgs with 43 goals and ranks second in the league and 25th nationally with 3.58 goals per game. Bruce is also fifth in points per game (3.83). Bruce has eight hat-tricks on the season to lead the Retrievers. She has scored four or more goals seven times this season.
  • Junior attacker Kolby Weedon ripped her 100th career goal in last Saturday's victory against UAlbany. Weedon is ninth in the America East with 3.33 points per game and ranks 11th on the circuit with 2.33 goals per game.
  • Junior midfielder Katana Nelson has moved up to sixth in the conference with 2.91 goals per game after her four-goal outburst against UAlbany. She has five hat-tricks on the season.
  • Senior attacker Mary Ellis is third on the circuit and 28th in the NCAA with 2.17 assists per game. Ellis has at least one assist in all 12 contests and leads the squad with 26 helpers this season. Ellis handed out two assists and has at least one helper in all 12 contests. Her 26 assists this season are the fourth highest in program history, and she is just two shy of tying Heather Kormanik ('98) for third.
  • Junior attacker Lauryn Warfield leads the America East with 5.92 draw controls per game and is 19th in the NCAA.
  • Senior defender Kennedy Evans has moved into second place on UMBC's all-time list with 68 caused turnovers, just four shy of breaking the program record.
  • Sophomore defender Emily Renehan was named the America East Defensive Player of the Week on Monday after she caused four turnovers and picked up three ground balls versus UAlbany.
  • Senior goalie Isabella Fontana leads the league in goals against average (9.88) and is second in saves percentage (.418).

LAST TIME OUT
  • The host UMBC women's lacrosse team grabbed first place in the America East Conference standings after defeating the UAlbany Great Danes, 12-11, on Saturday afternoon at windy UMBC Stadium.
  • Junior midfielder Katana Nelson scored a team-high four goals, and junior attacker Grace Bruce, junior attacker Kolby Weedon, and sophomore midfielder Lauryn Warfield each added a pair of markers. Weedon scored her 100th career goal in the fourth quarter, adding an assist and four draw controls. Senior netminder Isabella Fontana made seven saves to earn her eighth victory.
  • UMBC's defense, which ranks 21st in the country in goals against, was sensational all afternoon. They caused 12 turnovers and made the high-scoring Great Danes (4-8, 3-1 AE) work extremely hard on their offensive sets. Sophomore defender Emily Renehan (three ground balls) forced a career-high four turnovers, while senior defenders Kennedy Evans and Weedon picked up three caused turnovers. Junior defender Avery Corino scooped up three ground balls.

  • Vermont has dropped three straight and five of their last six contests after jumping out to a 5-1 start. The Catamounts are coming off a 21-10 defeat at Bryant last Saturday. Jane Trauger scored three goals and added an assist to lead the offense.
