Burlington, Vt. --
Anna Blount had a team-best 15 points and seven rebounds, but the UMBC Women's Basketball team's season concluded with a 54-41 loss at third-seeded Vermont on Friday night in the quarterfinals of the Jersey Mike's America East Playoffs.
The Catamounts led wire-to-wire in the win. A
Trinity Palacio three with 5:01 left in the first quarter cut the deficit to 11-9, but UMBC would be held scoreless for the next 9:06 as the hosts would extend the lead to 20-9 in the second. A Palacio layup and back-to-back buckets from
Jaliena Sanchez would cut the Vermont lead to 20-15, but that's as close as the Dawgs would get the rest of the way.
Palacio and Sanchez each tallied nine points,
Jordon Lewis and
Jaden Walker each chipped in with four. Sanchez also had a game-high four steals in the contest, while the defense held Vermont to just 10% shooting from three point range.
