Women's Lacrosse Drops Home Contest Versus Towson

Baltimore – Juniors Grace Bruce and Katana Nelson scored a pair of goals each, however, the host UMBC women's lacrosse team dropped a 17-6 decision against the Towson Tigers on Wednesday afternoon at UMBC Stadium.
 
Bruce now has a team-high 23 goals on the season while Nelson has contributed 16.  Junior midfielder Ria Lagdameo and junior attacker Alexis Abe both added a tally.
 
UMBC (4-3, 0-0 America East) got on the board just 2:34 into the contest as junior attacker Kolby Weedon found Bruce in front of the net to pick up her 10th assist of the campaign.
 
Towson tied the score on an unassisted marker by Milana Zizakovic (4 goals, 2 assists) with 7:37 left in the quarter but the hosts answered right back to take their final lead of the game on a winner by Alexis Abe just 1:31 later. Senior attacker Mary Ellis was credited with her team-leading 12th assist.
 
The Tigers then scored three consecutive times to grab a 4-2 advantage with 10:10 left in the second quarter. Lindsey Marshall (3 goals, 2 assists) had a goal and an assist during the run.
 
Nelson trimmed the deficit to 4-3 with 8:38 left in the half as she scored an unassisted goal, but the visitors reeled off four consecutive unassisted goals to grab an 8-3 advantage at the break.
 
Towson put the game out of reach in the third quarter as they scored the first five goals to extend their lead to 13-3 with nine minutes left. Marshall scored two more goals during the burst.
 
The Tigers led, 17-4, early in the fourth before Bruce and Lagdameo scored the final two goals of the game for the Retrievers.
 
UMBC senior goalie Isabella Fontana made eight saves in a losing cause.
 
The Retrievers will host Manhattan on Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
