Women's Lacrosse Preps for America East Road Battle at UMass Lowell on Saturday

  • Junior Grace Bruce scored six goals as the Retrievers led wire-to-wire in a 13-8 win over visiting New Hampshire on Friday afternoon at UMBC Stadium.
  • Junior Katana Nelson tallied three goals, junior Kolby Weedon had two and sophomore Lauryn Warfield and junior Ria Lagdameo each added a goal in the victory.
  • Senior Mary Ellis had two assists, and senior goalie Isabella Fontana made seven saves for the Retrievers who improved to 6-4 and 1-1 in the America East.
  • Weedon had seven draw controls, while sophomore Ella Killian had six. Senior Kennedy Evans had three ground balls and two caused turnovers. Junior Avery Corino also had two caused turnovers in the contest.
  
ABOUT THE RETRIEVERS
  • Bruce leads the Dawgs with 37 goals and ranks third in the league with 3.70 per game (18th, NCAA). Bruce is also fifth in the league in points per game (3.90). Bruce, who has scored 14 goals over her last three games, has seven hat-tricks on the season to lead the Retrievers. She has scored four or more goals six times.
  • Weedon is eighth in the America East Conference with 3.30 points per game. The junior went over the 100-point mark for her career in the victory at Mount St. Mary's and now has 116. She also ranks 12th on the circuit with 2.20 goals per game and needs six more to reach 100 for her career. She is also fourth in the conference with 5.20 draw controls per game.
  • Nelson is sixth in the conference with 2.78 goals per game and slots 11th in points per game (2.89).
  • Ellis is third on the circuit with 2.00 assists per game. Ellis has at least one assist in all 10 contests and leads the squad with 20 helpers this season.
  • Warfield is leading the America East with 6.80 draw controls per game and is 16th in the NCAA.
  • Fontana is second in the league in goals against average (9.25) as well as saves percentage (.415).
  • Evans needs four more caused turnovers to equal the program record of 67.
  • UMBC is second in the NCAA with a .684 draw control percentage and also rank second in scoring defense (9.30 gpg.)
 
  ABOUT THE RIVER HAWKS
  • UMass Lowell has lost back-to-back games after opening the campaign with eight straight wins.
  • The River Hawks opened the conference slate with a 14-9 loss at Binghamton last Saturday. Grace Lydon paced the team with three tallies while Chloe Bowers added a pair.
  • Bowers is fourth in the conference with 3.10 goals per game and is seventh in scoring at 3.50 points per game.
  • Jade Catlin has added 24 goals this season and ranks eighth on the circuit. She's also seventh with 3.50 points per game.
  • Megan Brockbank slots fifth in the league with 1.20 assists per game.
  • Goalie Alexa Kuhn leads the conference in goals against average (8.99) and saves percentage (.472). She's also averaging 1.88 ground balls per game, which is good for eight in the conference.
  • The River Hawks are scoring a league-high 14.6 goals per game and yield a league-low 8.9 goals per game.

INSIDE THE SERIES
  • UMBC has won all eight meetings with UMass Lowell.
  • The Retrievers, who toppled the River Hawks by an 18-9 margin last year in Baltimore, broke open a tight 7-6 halftime lead by outscoring the River Hawks by a 7-1 margin in the third quarter. Nelson recorded a hat-trick and Evans forced four turnovers.
