Marcus Banks Jr. poured in a career high 28 points and guard
Dion Brown added 24 as the visiting Retrievers ran away from the New Hampshire Wildcats, 86-68, in an America East Conference contest on Saturday afternoon.
Banks drilled 6-of-10 treys and finished 11-for-21 from the field to lead all scorers. In addition, his 78 3's this season is the ninth most in UMBC single-season history. Brown delivered his team-leading eighth double-double of the season with 24 points (12-of-17 shooting) and a game high 11 rebounds. Brown also went over the 700-point mark in just his sophomore campaign.
UMBC (10-19, 5-9) nearly led from start to finish as they jumped out to a 22-9 advantage midway through the opening half. Brown scored 10 points and Banks contributed seven points during the stretch.
UNH (15-11, 7-6) trimmed the deficit to 11 points, 24-13, with 9:20 left, however, the Retrievers reeled off 13 straight points to increase their lead to 37-13 at the 5:30 mark. Banks buried three consecutive triples during the run.
The visitors held a 48-24 advantage at halftime as the Dawgs held the Wildcats to just 29.4 percent shooting, including just 4-of-23 (17.4 percent) from distance. Banks had 21 points and hit five treys in the stanza.
UMBC put the game out of reach early in the second half as they scored the first nine points to grab a 57-24 lead with 17:17 remaining.
UNH was only able to get the game under 20 points on the final shot of the game.

Ace Valentine recorded seven rebounds and five assists.
The Retrievers travel to NJIT on Thursday evening.
