Ong Picks Up First Career RBI on Saturday at Santa Clara

Santa Clara, Calif. – Nico Ong picked up his first career hit and RBI, but the UMBC Baseball team dropped an 11-1 decision on Saturday at Santa Clara.

Matt Ryan went 2-for-4 and scored the Retrievers lone run, while Jayden Shertel got the start on the mound and allowed just two runs in four innings of work

Freshman Gabriel Ruiz got the start in left field and picked up a hit and a walk in his first career appearance.

Derek Paris also singled and walked twice for UMBC, who received a scoreless appearance out of the bullpen from Chris Ho. 

Ho worked 1.1 scoreless innings, striking out a pair and allowing just a single.

The Retrievers went up 1-0 in the second when Ryan, Paris and Ruiz hit three straight singles and Ong hit a sacrifice fly to right to score Ryan.

First pitch for the final game of the series on Sunday is at 3 p.m. EST
