Softball Drops UNCW Tournament Opener to Providence

Box Score Wilmington, N.C. -- Ashley Della Guardia drove in Ella Squaires to give the UMBC Softball team an early 1-0 lead, but Providence would score six unanswered to defeat the Retrievers, 6-1, on the opening day of the UNCW Tournament.

Squaires led-off the game with a single for her seventh hit in nine career at-bats. She then stole second and scored on Della Guardia's two out single up the middle.

It would remain 1-0 until the third when the Friars scored a pair, they then added three in the fifth and one in the sixth.

Amya Lundy doubled in the seventh, but was stranded.

Lyndsey Evix, Courtney Johnson and Emily Riggs all drew walks in the contest.

The Retrievers will play a pair on Saturday. First they face Kent State at noon, and then play George Mason right after,
