Late Rally Falls Short for Women's Basketball on Thursday

BALTIMORE -- The UMBC Women's Basketball team trimmed a 13-point fourth quarter deficit down to six with just two minutes remaining, but visiting Binghamton was able to hold off the rally and win, 52-44, on Thursday night at The Peake. 

Jaden Walker finished with 13 points and six rebounds to lead the Retrievers.

How it Happened:
  • Anna Blount scored first for the Retrievers with back-to-back layups tying it up early in the first quarter 4-4.
  • The Bearcats went on a six point run before UMBC called a timeout.
  • Jaliena Sanchez hit a three while getting fouled to make it 15-11 Binghamton.
  • Walker hit a layup to help cut the lead to 15-13 Binghamton to end the first quarter.
  • The teams traded baskets during the second quarter before a media time out, 26-19 Binghamton. 
  • Carmen Yanez hit a three to score last for the Retrievers to end the first half, 30-24 Binghamton.
  • Walker hit a jumper to make it 36-32 Binghamton before a third quarter time-out.
  • The Bearcats answered back with a 7-0 run to end the third, 43-32 Binghamton.
  • Sanchez started the fourth quarter with a layup being the only one to score before a timeout.
  • Blount and Trinity Palacio hit back-to-back three's to make it 49-42 Binghamton, but Binghamton made its free throws en route to the victory.
The Retrievers head to UAlbany on February 17th to face the Great Danes for a 7pm match-up.
