The UMBC Women's Basketball team will look to stay in the hunt for #AEPlayoffs hosting rights when it welcomes Binghamton to The Peake on Thursday night at 7 p.m.
The Retrievers and Bearcats both sit just one game behind Bryant for the fourth and final home quarterfinal spot.
Last time out,
Carmen Yánez tied a career-high with 12 points, but UMBC dropped a 69-45 decision on Saturday at defending champion Vermont.
The Retrievers got the first basket of the game, but the hosts took the lead moments later and never looked back.
Anna Blount paced the team with eight rebounds to go along with seven points, while
Jaden Walker,
Jaliena Sanchez and
Trinity Palacio each added six points for UMBC.
Jordon Lewis added four points and
Paloma Iradier and
Laura Lacambra watch recorded a bucket.
Scouting Binghamton:
- The Bearcats started America East play 0-4, before reeling off four wins in five games. However, BU has dropped two heartbreakers in a row to UAlbany and Bryant.
- Host Bryant outscored Binghamton 20-8 in the fourth period on its way to a 55-51 victory on Saturday afternoon at the Chace Athletic Center.
- The game marked the second of three straight road contests for the Bearcats.
- The defeat overshadowed an impressive performance by redshirt sophomore guard Jadyn Weltz. She tied for the game high with 15 points, going 6-for-9 from the field and a perfect 2-for-2 at the line.
- Weltz also grabbed five rebounds, dished out four assists, recorded four steals and blocked a shot.

- Jaliena Sanchez and Anna Blount each had a game-best 12 points, while Jordon Lewis added 10 and the duo of Trinity Palacio and Jaden Walker tallied nine each.
- Sanchez went 8-for-8 from the free throw line and all grabbed five rebounds, and had a pair of assists and steals.
- Blount pulled down a game-high seven rebounds, while Lewis went 4-for-6 from the field, including 2-for-3 from distance.
- Carmen Yánez added eight points, while fellow Spaniard Laura Lacambra chipped in with seven points and five rebounds.
