Walker's Big Day Leads Women's Basketball to 61-45 Triumph at Saint Francis

Loretto, Pa. -- Jaden Walker tied a career high in both points (15) and rebounds (13) to lead the UMBC Women's Basketball team to it's third straight victory, a 61-45 triumph at Saint Francis on Sunday afternoon.

The win gives UMBC (6-4) five Division 1 non-conference wins this season, it's most since 2015.

Jaliena Sanchez had 13 points, five rebounds, three steals and an assist, Jordon Lewis added 10 points and eight rebounds, Carmen Yánez had a game-best six assists in the winning effort.

Tiara Bellamy, Laura Lacambra and Lauren Thompson had six points each off the bench. 

How It Happened:
  • Saint Francis took an early 5-4 lead, but UMBC eventually went on a 6-0 run to take the lead for good.
  • The Retrievers led 17-15 after the first, and had nine out of the 17 points scored from the free throw line.
  • After Saint Francis opened the second quarter with a free throw, Alaina Williams responded with a layup to make it 19-16 UMBC.
  • Thompson then drained the Retrievers first three of the game to push the lead to 26-20.
  • UMBC ended the first half with a layup from Walker followed by a three from Jaliena Sanchez, to take a 31-22 lead into the break.
  • Both teams exchanged buckets early in the third before UMBC went on a 5-0 run with Thompson making another three to increase the lead to 13 at 40-27.
  • Saint Francis went on a 5-0 run before UMBC made three free throws and Lacambra made a jumper at the buzzer to end the third up 49-38 UMBC
  • Lewis opened the fourth quarter with a three and the Retrievers went on 12-0 run to start the final frame and pull away for the victory

UMBC now has 12 days off for finals before returning to action at George Mason on Friday, December 20 at 2 p.m.
