The UMBC Women's Basketball team will close out non-conference play, and the 2024 calendar year, when it hosts Bryn Athyn on Sunday at The Peake. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. on ESPN+.
Last time out,Â
Jordon Lewis led the Retrievers offense with 13 points and seven rebounds, whileÂ
Lauren Thompson added eight points off the bench with two assists, but UMBC fell at George Mason (11-1), 75-53, on December 20.
The game was the final road non-conference game of the regular season.Â
Carmen Yánez had seven points with a block.Â
Jaden Walker led the team in rebounds with eight and had two steals.Â
Alaina Williams andÂ
Talia Davis each had six points and two rebounds.
Kenya Ramsey made her first career three in the contest.Â
The Retrievers had a few early leads after three's from Lewis and Davis, but a 9-0 run gave the Patriots an 18-8 advantage that they would not relinquish the rest of the way. UMBC did cut the lead to eight on multiple occasions, but couldn't complete the rally.
Bryn Athyn last played on December 18, crushing visiting Lycoming College 73-42, to improve to 10-2 on the season.
Zhymani Smith outscored Lycoming herself, 22-20, in the first half. She cruised to an efficient 27 point performance to go along with four assists, three rebounds, and two steals, whileÂ
Alayna Day added 11 points, four rebounds, and three steals.Â
Malia Bullock contributed none points while going 100% from the field and free throw line in just 13 short minutes.Â
Yonique Reynolds andÂ
Xion Spence each tallied eight rebounds.
It is the first time in program history the Lions reached 10 wins through December, the best start in program history (10-2) and most non-conference wins since being a member of any conference.
