BALTIMORE – The UMBC women's and men's swimming and diving squads open the 2024-25 schedule at the UMBC Aquatic Complex to take on American University on Saturday, Oct. 5.
CAPTAINS: Head Coach
Matt Donovan has announced that graduate student
Makaela Hill (Catonsville, Md.) and senior
Joella Mills (North Attleboro, Pa.) have been selected team captains for the 2024-25 women's swimming and diving program.
VERSUS AMERICAN: The women's swim and dive team won against American last season on Sept. 30, 154.50-145.50.
Nyah Stahl led a balanced effort, winning both the 200 backstroke and 200 IM.
Joella Mills and
Ember Stennett swept the boards for the Retrievers. Mills took the 1-meter event with 229.80 points, while Stennett captured the 3-meter board at 222.90 points.
Bruna de Padua and
Elze Bielskute earned golds in the 1000 yard freestyle and 100 yard breaststroke events respectively. Finally, the veterans took over with
Rola Hussein and
Makaela Hill mining gold in the 100 backstroke and 50 freestyle respectively and Telma Maltesjo capturing the 200 yard breaststroke.
2024-25 AMERICA EAST CHAMPIONSHIPS: The post-season gets underway on February 19-22 when the men and women strive to re-capture the crown at the America East Swimming & Diving Championships. The championships move south to Lexington, Va. as associate league member VMI hosts at the two-year old VMI Aquatic Center.
NEXT MEET: UMBC will hit the road at Navy with William & Mary on Oct. 12 in Annapolis, Md. The meet gets underway at 11 a.m. .
