Women's Soccer Set to Finish Season at NJIT on Thursday Evening

Reid Closing in on Career Minutes Milestone

  • Graduate student forward Meghan McKye scored two goals, but the UMBC women's soccer team dropped a 3-2 decision against the New Hampshire Wildcats on Senior Day at Retriever Soccer Park. The loss eliminated the Retrievers from America East Conference Tournament contention.
  • McKye got the hosts on the board with 29 minutes left as she headed in a cross from senior Clara Looney to slice the lead in half at 2-1. Senior back Lauren Reid initiated the play, finding Looney along the right corner on a free kick. Looney then sent a gorgeous cross into the box, and McKye directed a header into the lower left corner as UNH goalie Sally Rainey was caught out of position.
  • The Wildcats got an insurance marker with under ten minutes.
  • The Retrievers answered just over a minute later to give themselves an opportunity for a comeback as McKye put in a corner kick off the foot of senior midfielder Izzy Binko from point-blank range.
  • UMBC senior goalie Abbey Cowles played a strong game, making five saves, including a couple of diving stops.
  • McKye now has 15 career goals
  • Natasha Munro is tied for fourth in the AE with six markers and is sixth overall in points (14).
  • Izzy Binko is tied for 3rd in the conference with two game-winning goals.
  • Binko is tied for 3rd in the league with five assists.
  • Senior back Lauren Reid is 74 minutes shy of reaching 6,000 for her career.

  • The Highlanders earned a point in America East play with a 2-2 draw against first-place Maine on October 27, snapping the Black Bears' eight-game winning streak. 
  • Ciara Adams recorded three points against Maine, scoring one goal and adding one assist. She netted her goal in the 57th minute, assisted by Briana Andreoli and Sydney Burlingame. The Flemington, New Jersey native is tied with Andreoli for a team-high nine points (3 goals, 3 assists) this season.
  • Bella Ramirez scored her first collegiate goal in the 39th minute against Maine, assisted by Adams. Ramirez earned the America East Co-Rookie of the Week honors for her performance.
  • Goalkeeper Samantha Constantine recorded five saves on 21 shots faced against Maine. The senior has made 18 saves in her last three games, including a season-high eight saves against Binghamton on October 17.
