Men's Soccer Opens Four-Game Homestand Tuesday Night Against Drexel at UMBC Stadium

DAWG BYTES 
  • The Retrievers opened the America East Conference season with a convincing 2-0 win against the Binghamton Bearcats on Saturday evening at rainy Bearcats Sports Complex. It was the Retriever's first road win of the season.
  • Junior Ricky Schissler and senior Karl Quist-Therson scored second half goals for their first career tallies. Both markers came just moments after free kicks into the box by senior defender Ty Stroud.
  • The Retrievers (4-3-2, 1-0-0 AE) created most of the scoring opportunities in the contest as they outshot the Bearcats by a 16-8 margin, including a 10-3 edge in shots on target. The Retrievers, who lead the circuit in corner kicks, added seven more to their ledger this evening. Binghamton (6-3-1, 0-1-0) entered the match with a five-game unbeaten streak.
  • Graduate student defender Hans Nesheim is fourth in the country with seven assists on the season.
  • The Retrievers are second in the league in scoring (2.00 goals per game).
  • The Dawgs have attempted a league-high 52 corner kicks.
  • Emigdio Tormo Lopez leads the conference with 5.00 saves per game and a .818 save percentage.
 
ABOUT THE DRAGONS
  • Dominick Bachstein was named the Philadelphia Soccer Six's Offensive Player of the Week for the week of September 16-22. 
  • The graduate student helped lead Drexel to a midweek victory against FDU. Bachstein pieced together the second multi-goal match of the season by scoring two goals in the 2-0 shutout against the Knights. His second goal of the night was his fifth of the season, tying his season high. 
  • Bachstein leads Drexel with five goals and is the only Dragon with multiple goals scored.
  • Patrick Short has distributed a team-high four assists.
  • Raphael Bartell is 3-2 with a 1.20 goals against average. He's recorded three shutouts this season.
 
 INSIDE THE SERIES
  • UMBC is 3-4-1 all-time against Drexel but the Dawgs have won the last three meetings.
  • In their last battle, the Retrievers pulled out a 2-1 win in Philadelphia on 10/25/2016 as UMBC scored the game-winner in the 85th minute.
  • The Retrievers are 2-1 against the Dragons in Baltimore
