Men's Soccer Falls to Drexel on Tuesday Evening at UMBC Stadium

BALTIMORE — The UMBC Men's Soccer team battled but Drexel University emerged with a 5-0 road victory on Tuesday night. The Retrievers (4-4-2) were held scoreless but had multiple opportunities to hit the mark in the game.

The Dragons were able to score 25 minutes in as a shot by Ethan Schaefer went to the low left side of the goal. The visitors came right back and scored again at 38:41 on a header by Stephen Appiah.

Dominick Bachstein made it 3-0 at 40:12 with a 10-yard shot after eluding a Retriever defender.

Junior Lasse Kelp had an opportunity to help the Retrievers with a free kick at the edge of the box at the start of the second half, but Drexel's keeper Alessandro Capogna (five stops) made a stretching save.

Sophomore Ryan Calheira had a breakaway on the right side of the pitch and created space for a shot but wasn't able to hit the target.

Drexel (5-4-0), who held a 14-13 advantage in shots, added two more goals in the second half to put the game out of reach.

UMBC will face America East rival UMass Lowell this Saturday evening at Retriever Soccer Park.
