Women's Basketball Welcomes Vermont to The Peake for Annual Midday Madness Game

The UMBC Women's Basketball team will look to push its winning-streak to five when it welcomes defending America East champion Vermont to The Peake for the annual Midday Madness game on Thursday at 11 a.m.

Last time out, Laura Lacmbra made a putback of her own miss with 2.3 seconds left to give the UMBC Women's Basketball team a wild 64-63 win at Bryant on Saturday afternoon.

Trinity Palacio paced UMBC with 17 points, a season-high seven boards, three assists and tied a career-high with two blocks, while Jaliena Sanchez added 14 points in limited action due to foul trouble.Lacambra and Jaden Walker each grabbed eight boards to lead the Retrievers

The Retrievers would miss a shot with eight seconds left down 63-62, but would get the offensive board. After a timeout, Palacio drove the baseline and found a cutting Lacambra open in the paint, the sophomore missed the first chance, but easily get the rebound and follow-up to give UMBC the late lead. Bryant couldn't get a shot off in time to give the Retrievers the win.

Scouting Vermont

  • Vermont's fourth quarter push came up short on Saturday afternoon as they fell on the road to Maine,60-48, to snap Vermont's 18-game America East winning streak.
  • Keira Hanson scored a career-high 20 points knocking down a career-high six three pointers to lead UVM. 
  • Emma Utterback finished with 11 points and a game-high six assists.
  • Vermont knocked in a season-high 11 threes on 32.4 percent shooting while holding the Black Bears to just 16.7 percent from beyond the arc.
  • Vermont's bench outscored Maine's 25-13
  • With her fourth quarter free throw Anna Olson tallied her 1,000 career point as a Catamount.

All-Time Series

  • Vermont leads the all-time series, 23-19, with UVM taking 2-of-3 last year
  • The two last met in the America East Semifinal on 3/5 in Burlington, where the hosts won 75-63 en route to winning the title. 
  • Prio to Saturday's loss at Maine, Vermont's last loss in America East play was a 58-57 defeat at home to UMBC on 1/1/23.
