Big Fourth Quarter Pushes New Hampshire Past Women's Basketball

Durham, N.H. -- Trinity Palacio scored a team-high 11 points, but host New Hampshire used a 33-9 run over the final 17 minutes to defeat the UMBC Women's Basketball team, 56-37, on Saturday afternoon.

The hosts pulled away by out-scoring the Retrievers, 15-2, in the fourth.

How it happened:
  • UNH scored the first eight points of game, forcing a Retrievers timeout just 2:41 into the contest
  • After the hosts made it 10-0, UMBC got on the board on a Sanchez steal and fastbreak layup
  • The lead grew to 14-2, but the visitors got a bucket from Laura Lacambra and a three from Riley Donahue to cut the lead in half after the first quarter
  • Anna Blount and Palacio opened the second by draining back-to-back threes and cutting the deficit to just one.
  • Sanchez added a jumper to give the Retrievers their first lead of the game at 17-15 forcing the Wildcats to take a timeout.
  • The Wildcats responded with four straight points until Grace Ceseretti got fouled and made it 19-18 UNH.
  • Palacio hit a three with 17 seconds left of the quarter to make it 23-21 going into halftime.
  • Blount hit a three after halftime but the Wildcats responded with three straight three's of their own taking the lead 32-28.
  • Blount ended the third quarter after getting a two-pointer making it 41-35 UNH.
  • New Hampshire scored first starting the fourth quarter but Blount responded with a jumper with just over eight minutes left to trim the deficit to 43-37
  • UNH would not allow another UMBC point the rest of the way, and end the game on a 13-0 run.
The Retrievers wrap-up their three-game road trip next Saturday when they travel to New Jersey to take on NJIT at 3pm.
