Women's Soccer Set to Entertain Navy On Sunday Afternoon

NAVY (3-1-3) at UMBC (2-5-0) | Sunday, Sept. 10| Baltimore, MD (Retriever Soccer Park | Watch | Live Stats

DAWG BYTES

- The "Rick Stainton Era" began with a bang as the UMBC women's soccer team blanked Kutztown, 2-0, in the season-opener at Retriever Soccer Park on Aug. 17.
 - Freshman forward Payton Schenning, Maryland's 2022 Gatorade Girls Player of the Year, headed in the game-winner just two minutes into her career off a gorgeous corner kick into the box from graduate student Lola Negrete.  The Retrievers got an insurance marker in the '70 when freshman striker Cheyenne Payne tapped in a feed from junior midfielder Bella Roppolo from five yards out.
 - After falling to Longwood and Drexel, the Dawgs evened their record with a 1-0 victory at LIU last Sunday. Senior forward Meghan McKye struck just 12 minutes in with a laser from 15 yards out after shedding three defenders.
 - The Retrievers fell to the High Point Panthers, 1-0, in a game that was delayed forty minutes due to lightning on Thursday evening. The visitors threatened the entire game and finally broke through on a penalty kick in the 60th minute for the lone score of the evening. JR goalie Abbey Cowles kept the Retrievers in the game all night as she tied her season-high (Drexel) with nine saves, including a diving stop to thwart graduate forward Tessa Carlin with 17:10 left in the opening half.
 - Abbey Cowles is third in the America East with 5.86 saves per game.
