- UMBC dominated the second half and was able to pick up an important 2-2 draw against the Bryant Bulldogs, in the America East season-opener for both squads on Sunday afternoon at Retriever Soccer Park.
 - The Retrievers, who fell behind by two goals in the first half, received goals from senior forward Meghan McKye and graduate student forward Natasha Munro to pick up a point in the conference standings. Graduate student midfielder Lola Negrete assisted on both goals, including the equalizer on a corner kick with just over eight minutes left in the match.
- The "Rick Stainton Era" began with a bang as the UMBC women's soccer team blanked Kutztown, 2-0, in the season-opener at Retriever Soccer Park on Aug. 17.
 - Freshman forward Payton Schenning, Maryland's 2022 Gatorade Girls Player of the Year, headed in the game-winner just two minutes into her career off a gorgeous corner kick into the box from graduate student Lola Negrete. The Retrievers got an insurance marker in the '70 when freshman striker Cheyenne Payne tapped in a feed from junior midfielder Bella Roppolo from five yards out.
  - McKye is 9th in the America East with seven points (3 goals, 1 assist) thus far in 2023.
- Negrete 4th is 4th on the circuit in assists per game (3.00. In addition, she's 9th in the conference with 0.90 shots on goal per game and is 13th in total shots (2.00 pg.)
 - Junior Izzy Binko is 20th in total shots (1.60 pg.)
 - Junior goalkeeper Abbey Cowles leads the America East with 5.80 saves per game.

- Iona is currently 1-7-1 on the season with a recent 0-1 loss against Niagara on Sunday.
- The Gaels have only just two goals thus far this season while allowing 29 goals on the other end.
