Box Score BALTIMORE – Visiting American (2-2-2) broke a 1-1 halftime deadlock with a pair of second half scores and defeated UMBC, 3-1, before 982 fans at Retriever Soccer Park.
UMBC (4-2-2) senior forward
Taylor Calheira scored his seventh goal of the season in the 35' to forge a 1-1 tie. He nearly gave the Retrievers the lead just before halftime, but his header went off the right post.
American got on the board in the 11' on a goal by Ethan Boyle as he ran onto a pass in the middle of the box and scored.

Ty Stroud touched a pass to him four yards outside the box and he drilled a shot just inside the far left post.
UMBC controlled play in the early stages of the second half, but the Eagles' first foray into Retriever territory ended up in the net. Similar to his first goal, Boyle charged down the middle of the field and knocked home a centering feed to give AU a 2-1 lead in the 49'.
The Retrievers had two golden chances to knot the score, but could not convert. In the 54',
Spencer Hanks re-directed a pass from the four yards out, but AU goalkeeper Matthew Tibbets made a diving save at the goal line to keep the ball out.

Robbie Ryerson tapped Calheira's shot in at the right post, but was deemed to be offsides.
American got the insurance marker on a Miles Lam header in the 75'.
UMBC put tremendous pressure on AU in the final 15 minutes, but could not get another score.
The Retrievers outshot AU, 18-10 and goalkeeper
Emigdio Tormo Lopez made three saves.
