The UMBC Volleyball team (6-4) concludes its grueling opening non-conference slate by traveling to No.8 Pitt on Wednesday.
The two teams met in Pittsburgh in the 2021 NCAA Tournament, where the Panthers won in three sets.
Kamani Conteh picked up 21 kills on .410 hitting and added a season-high eight digs to lead the UMBC Volleyball team past Seton Hall in four sets (25-19, 21-25, 25-16, 25-16) on Sunday afternoon at Penn State's Rec Hall.
Seton Hall had just taken a set from No.13 Penn State on Saturday.
Mia Bilusic chipped in with 12 kills and 16 digs, while
Serin Maden also had a double-double, tallying 29 assists and 14 digs.
Conteh and Maden each earned spots on the All-Tournament Team.
Julija Grubisic Cabo had nine kills, 11 digs and three blocks, and classmate
Hannah Howard had nine digs and nine assists.
Mila Ilieva paced the defense at the net with six blocks, while
Michela De Marzi and
Weronika Wrzesinska each added four blocks of their own.
Bird Alford came off the bench to tally eight assists and six digs.
Scouting Pittsburgh:
- The Panthers are currently 8-2 with home sweeps of James Madison and High Point this past weekend.
- Pittsburgh is currently ranked 8th in the nation behind Oregon and Texas.
- Freshman Olivia Babcock leads the team in kills with 101 and junior Emmy Klika leads in digs with 132.
- The Panthers return an experienced squad with only four freshmen for the 2023 season.
