The UMBC Volleyball team hits the road once again for a brief weekend tournament at No.13 Penn State. The Retrievers will take on the hosts on Friday at 7 p.m. before facing Seton Hall on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Freshman outside hitter Julija Grubisic Cabo (Maribor, Slovenia) has been named the America East Rookie of the Week, the Conference announced on Tuesday morning. 

Grubisic Cabo had the best matches of her young career this past weekend, tallying 42 kills, 37 digs, and 50.5 points. In a win over defending Ivy League champs Princeton, recorded a career-best 17 kills, 12 digs, and a .389 hitting pct, as UMBC (5-3) went 2-1 on the weekend.

Scouting Penn State:

• The Retrievers last faced the Nittany Lions last season in the first round of the NCAA Tournament where the Nittany Lions swept UMBC.
• Penn State has a 4-3 record with loses against #11 Florida, #20 Georgia Tech, and #2 Louisville.
• Penn State is currently ranked #13 in the nation.
• Senior Jess Mruzik leads the team in kills with 96 and graduate student Mac Podraza leads in assists with 219.
• The Nittany Lions return an experienced team while adding four freshmen this season.

Scouting Seton Hall:

• The Retrievers last faced the Pirates on November 17, 2010 where the Retrievers lost 3-1.
• The Pirates have a 6-3 record with their most recent win being against Stonehill.
• Graduate student Madeline Matheny leads the team in kills with 82 and junior Maddie Klungel leads in assists with 163.
• Junior Jenna Walsh has had 11 service aces and senior Taylor Jakubowski has a team-leading 91 digs.
• The Pirates carry an experienced team as only three freshmen joined the team this season.
