- UMBC went toe-to-toe with Navy for most of the afternoon but fell to the Midshipmen, 4-1, in a non-conference contest on Sunday at Retriever Soccer Park.
 - Junior midfielder Izzy Binko and senior forward Meghan McKye teamed up for a tremendous goal in the 51^st minute to even the score at 1-1, however, the visitors scored three unanswered markers en route to the victory.
  - UMBC outshot Navy by a 7-4 count in the opening half but the Mids had 15 opportunities compared to the Retrievers' five chances in the final forty-five.
 -Navy attempted seven corners compared to UMBC's three.
 - The "Rick Stainton Era" began with a bang as the UMBC women's soccer team blanked Kutztown, 2-0, in the season-opener at Retriever Soccer Park on Aug. 17.
 - Freshman forward Payton Schenning, Maryland's 2022 Gatorade Girls Player of the Year, headed in the game-winner just two minutes into her career off a gorgeous corner kick into the box from graduate student Lola Negrete.  The Retrievers got an insurance marker in the '70 when freshman striker Cheyenne Payne tapped in a feed from junior midfielder Bella Roppolo from five yards out.
 - After falling to Longwood and Drexel, the Dawgs evened their record with a 1-0 victory at LIU. Senior forward Meghan McKye struck just 12 minutes in with a laser from 15 yards out after shedding three defenders.
 - Junior midfielder Esther Juretzka scored her second career goal against Towson on August 31.
 - McKye is 12th in the America East with five points (2 goals, 1 assist) thus far in 2023.
- Negrete is seventh in the conference with 1.00 shots on goal per game and is 11^th in total shots (1.88 pg.)
 - Graduate student Natasha Munro is 19^th in the league with 0.63 shots on goal per game while Payne is 20th (0.63 pg.).
 - Junior goalkeeper Abbey Cowles is second in the America East with 6.00 saves per game.
 
A GLANCE AT THE MOUNTAINEERS
- Mount St. Mary's is coming off a 1-1 draw against Iona in the team's Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opener. 
- Maddie Bee's goal with just under 10 minutes remaining lifted the Mount to the tie.  The Gaels had taken the lead with a goal off a corner kick in the 38^th minute.  Bee paced the Mount offense in the game with seven shots, including six on goal.  Klil Keshwar made three saves in the game. 
 Luisangely Navas leads the Mount with three points (1g, 1a) while Bee and Taylor Carter have also scored goals this season. 
Keshwar has appeared in all seven games in goal with six starts, recording a 1.50 goals against average and 37 saves (.804 save pct.).
 
 INSIDE THE SERIES
- UMBC has won 16 of their 20 matches with Mount St. Mary's.
- The Retrievers had won three straight meetings until the Mount came away with a 2-1 victory on Sept. 12, 2021 in Emmitsburg. UMBC is 8-3 all-time at Mount.
