Softball Puts up Valiant Effort at No.6 Oklahoma State

Stillwater, OK – The UMBC Softball team put up a valiant effort before falling to No.6 Oklahoma State, 9-0 on Friday night at Cowgirl Stadium.

How it Happened:

The game was delayed three-and-a-half hours due to rain
After a scoreless top of the first, Oklahoma State put two on with one out, Kya Matter (Dalmatia, Pa.) got a fly out and a ground out to end the threat
Karly Keating (Orlando, Fla.) doubled with one out in the second and Emily Riggs (Lancaster, Pa.) walked with two outs, but UMBC couldn't cash in.
A single and an error put two on with one out against the Cowgirls, but Keating snagged a liner and doubled off the runner at second to end the inning.
OSU broke through in the 3rd with a pair of bunt singles, and after Matter got foul out and a strikeout, the hosts got an RBI single to take a 1-0 lead into the fourth.
Madison Wilson (Abingdon, Md.) singled with one out in the fourth, but UMBC again couldn't push a run across.
The hosts added five in the fourth, one in the fifth and two in the sixth to take the victory.
Madison O'Berg (Lorain, Ohio) made her NCAA Tournament pitching debut in the fifth and got three batters in a row, with Shanel Stott (Cumberland, Md.) saving the game with an incredible diving stop.

UMBC will face the loser of Wichita State/Nebraska tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. EST.
