Luke Trythall drove in three runs but the host Retrievers fell to the Delaware State Hornets, 13-9, in a non-conference contest on Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Field.

Trythall went 2-for-2 and sophomore third baseman
Matt Ryan reached base a team-high four times as he finished 2-for-3 (2 walks) with a pair of RBI. Graduate student left fielder
Christian Easley went 2-for-2 and graduate student right fielder
Ian Diaz scored a pair of runs.

Delaware State (12-30) third baseman Trey Paige homered and drove in a game-high four runs while center fielder Jordan King went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles.

Rob Dorn was chased after 3.1 innings after allowing eight runs on three hits and seven walks.Â
Eddie Sargent (five strikeouts) suffered the loss as he surrendered two earned runs over 2.2 innings in relief.

The Retrievers led 3-0 after an inning as Diaz produced an RBI groundout and Trythall smoked a two-run single.

The visitors scored four runs in the top of the second as Dorn unloaded three run scoring wild pitches after an RBI single by King.

UMBC scored twice in the bottom of the second to grab a 5-4 edge. Freshman first baseman
Leewood Molessa brought in the first run with a fielder's choice RBI and Ryan drew a bases loaded RBI walk.

Paige belted a grand slam in the top of the fourth to stake the Hornets to an 8-5 lead, but the hosts answered with three runs in the bottom of the frame to even the game at 8-8. Trythall recorded an RBI single and scored on a wild pitch and then junior second baseman
Anthony Swenda added a groundout RBI.

Delaware State went ahead for good, 10-8, on a two-run homer by Evan Bouldin in the top of the sixth. The Hornets widened their lead to 13-8 in the top of the ninth before Ryan bashed a solo dinger in the bottom of the ninth.

UMBC will host UAlbany for their final three regular-season America East contests beginning on Friday evening at 6:00 p.m.
