Softball Returns Home to Host Maine this Weekend

The UMBC Softball team returns to The Diamond for a three-game series against America East rival Maine this weekend. First pitch for Saturday's doubleheader is scheduled for noon, with Sunday's finale slated for 10:30 a.m.

Last Time Out:
  • Lyndsey Evix (Cumberland, Md.) continued her torrid pace at the plate with a single and a double, but the visiting UMBC Softball team fell to Maryland, 9-0, in five innings on Wednesday night.
  • Jerzie Nutile (Pasadena, Md.) and Meghan Dempsey (Collegeville, Pa.) each had hits for the Retrievers.
  • Graduate student Courtney Coppersmith earned America East Player of the Week honors. In the batter's box, she hit a pair of home runs, including a grand slam in the 12-3 win over UAlbany on Saturday.
  • In the circle, she picked up a win in relief on Sunday and struck out nine Great Danes in eight innings of work over the weekend.
  • She entered the game in the bottom of the seventh and allowed only one base-runner to earn her third win (3-2) of the season. Sophomore Kya Matter pitched the first six frames and only allowed one earned run against an outstanding hitting club
Scouting Maine:
  • The University of Maine softball team was defeated by the Boston University Terriers, 3-0 and 9-1, in both ends of the doubleheader at the BU Softball Field.
  • In game one, Alysen Rieth and Ava Zettlemoyer combined to go 6.0 innings. They combined to allow two earned and strike out three.
  • Immy Gie tallied two hits, while Kyrah Haba-Dailey lined one to right.
  • In game two, Reith and Alexandra Gruitch combined to go 4.0 innings. They combined to allow nine earned and strike out two.
  • Madison Hand paced the Black Bears' offense with two hits. Maggie Helms scored the run.
