Softball Drops Slugfest to Towson

BALTIMORE – Madison O'Berg (Lorain, Ohio) hit her first homer of the year, but the UMBC Softball team dropped a 15-7 decision to visiting Towson in five innings on Wednesday night at The Diamond.

O'Berg got the start and allowed just three earned runs, but costly errors on defense allowed five unearned runs to score.

Jerzie Nutile (Pasadena, Md.) had an RBI single, while Shanel Stott (Cumberland, Md.) had a sacrifice fly in the fourth to score pinch runner Erin Behel (Ellicott City, Md.).

Emily Riggs (Lancaster, Pa.) had a pair of hits, while Macy Granzow (Glen Dale, Md.) had two hit, including an RBI single, walked twice and stole a base for the Retrievers

Karly Keating (Orlando, Fla.) added two hits, including an RBI double, and scored a run, while Amaya Carroll (Hanover, Md.) had an RBI single and pitched three innings of relief, striking out four.

UMBC returns to America East action with a three game series at UAlbany this weekend.
