Evix Walk-Off Three-Run Homer Stuns Binghamton

BALTIMORE -- Lyndsey Evix (Cumberland, Md.) hit a walk-off three-run homer with one out in the bottom of the seventh to lead the UMBC Softball team to a stunning 3-1 win over Binghamton in an America East contest on Saturday afternoon.

UMBC improved to 11-9 (3-0 AE), while Binghamton fell to 14-8 (2-1 AE).

Kya Matter (Dalmatia, Pa.) pitched seven strong innings, allowing just an unearned run while striking out five and walking just one.

The lone Bearcat run of the game came on a two-out error that allowed a runner to score from second in the fourth.

In the seventh, Courtney Coppersmith (York, Pa.) singled with one out, she then moved to third on a Jerzie Nutile single and error. That's when Evix blasted the first pitch she saw over the fence in left-center.

Madison Wilson (Abingdon, Md.), Karly Keating (Orlando, Fla.), Coppersmith, Evix and Nutile each had two hits for the Retrievers.

The teams will play a double-header tomorrow at noon.
