Softball Welcomes Binghamton to The Diamond

The UMBC Softball team looks to continue its winning ways when it welcomes Binghamton to The Diamond for an America East weekend series

Due to anticipated weather, the updated weekend schedule is as follows: Saturday - 3 p.m. (Single Game) | Sunday - 12 p.m. (DH)

Last Time Out:
  • UMBC (10-9, 20 AE) swept a doubleheader from visiting Bryant to open up America East play last Sunday
  • Kya Matter (Dalmatia, Pa.) threw a 14 strikeout no-hitter and Madison Wilson (Abingdon, Md.) hit a walk-off solo homer to give UMBC a 1-0 win in game one
  • Freshman Amaya Carroll (Hanover, Md.) blasted her first career homer, a go-ahead two-run shot in the sixth inning, while Courtney Coppersmith (York, Pa.) had a two-RBI single and struck out all six batters she faced, as the UMBC softball team completed the sweep with a 6-2 victory in game two
  • In the second game, Shanel Stott (Cumberland, Md.) went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead the offense, while Karly Keating (Orlando, Fla.) also had a pair of hits for the Retrievers.
  • For their efforts, Matter was named America East Pitcher of the Week, while Carroll was named the America East Rookie of the Week, the Conference announced on Tuesday morning.
Scouting Binghamton:
  • The Bearcats have won five straight contests winning at Cornell and George Mason while also sweeping a doubleheader against Maine in conference play. 
  • Sophomore Lindsey Walter(4-1) has had a magnificent start to the season leading the America East in pitching and hitting. She owns a 1.22 ERA and 4 ER in 23 innings pitched. She also leads the conference with a .520 batting average and 18 runs scored. 
  • Sophomore outfielder Briana Santos also leads the America East with 22 RBI's and has a .320 batting average. 
  • The Bearcats are second in the conference for pitching and hitting. They have a 3.06 ERA, and a .282 batting average while also having a total of 85 RBI
