BOSTON -- UMBC Softball pitcher Kya Matter (Dalmatia, Pa.) was named America East Pitcher of the Week, and freshman Amaya Carroll (Hanover, Md.) was named the America East Rookie of the Week, the Conference announced on Tuesday morning.

Matter pitched a 14 strikeout, one walk, no-hitter against Bryant on Sunday. For the week, she went 1-1 in three appearances with 22 innings pitched, allowing just three earned runs, striking out 24 and walking just 3.  

Carroll hit a tie-breaking two-run homer in the sixth inning of game two against Bryant. She also pitched a scoreless inning of relief against Coppin State on Wednesday. 

UMBC hosts Binghamton in an America East series this weekend.
