Riggs Homers in Third Straight Game, But Softball Drops Tight, 4-1, Decision at Penn State

Box Score University Park, Pa. -- Freshman Emily Riggs (Lancaster, Pa.) homered for the third-consecutive game, but the UMBC Softball team dropped a narrow, 4-1, decision to host Penn State (16-3) on Thursday evening.

The current America East Rookie of the Week also drew a walk, and turned a nifty double play in the sixth when she caught a liner at third and doubled off the runner at first.

Karly Keating (Orlando, Fla.) and Shanel Stott (Cumberland, Md.) also singled for UMBC (8-6).

Kya Matter (Dalmatia, Pa.) pitched six solid innings, allowing just three earned runs while striking out three.

The tournament continues tommorow as UMBC will face Cornell at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow morning and then face Canisius immediately after.
