Morgan State Gets Past Women's Basketball on Saturday


BALTIMORE – Trinity Palacio filled the stat sheet with five points, five steals, three rebounds and two assists, but the UMBC Women's Basketball team fell, 65-42, on Saturday at Morgan State.

How it Happened:
  • Morgan forced four early turnovers to take a 7-2 lead less than three minutes into the contest
  • Anna Blount sunk both of UMBC first two shots, including a three that made it 9-5 Lady Bears four minutes in.
  • After MSU took a 12-5 lead, UMBC went on a 7-0 run to end the quarter, capped by a Jaliena Sanchez three.
  • Blount had seven first quarter points on 3-3 shooting, while Sanchez had the other five Retriever points
  • The hosts scored the first ten points of the second quarter before a Jordon Lewis layup with 4:36 left in the half cut the UMBC deficit to 22-14
  • This time it was Morgan who ended the quarter on a 7-0 run to take a 31-17 lead into the break.
  • The hosts scored 14 points off 15 UMBC turnovers in the half.
  • Morgan continued its run into the third, scoring the first seven points before a Palacio three ended the UMBC drought. 
  • Anne Adewumi hit a floater and Palacio had two straight steals that led to buckets to cut the deficit to 38-26
  • Overall, the Retrievers ended the quarter on an 11-4 run to go into the final frame trailing 42-28
  • Morgan pulled away in the fourth for the win
  • Sanchez finished with a team-best 14 points, while Blount tallied 12 points and seven rebounds.
  • Jaden Walker grabbed a team-high eight rebounds
UMBC begins its break for finals and won't return to action until 12/20 at American. That game is scheduled to tip-off at 12:30 p.m.
