Volleyball Visits Binghamton for Sunday Showdown

The UMBC Volleyball team will make its final regular season road trip of the season when it visits Binghamton in a battle for first place on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Last time out, Julija Grubisic Cabo had a game-high 11 kills on .310 hitting with nine digs to lead the UMBC Volleyball team to a sweep of host Howard (25-22, 25-20, 25-16) on Wednesday night at Burr Gymnasium.

The Retrievers conclude their difficult non-conference schedule with a 7-5 record, including taking both matches against MEAC favorite Howard in only seven sets.

UMBC (12-7, 5-2 AE) used late runs in all three sets to pull away. In the first set, the Retrievers used a 5-0 run to turn a 21-19 deficit into a 25-22 set win. A 10-2 run in the second set turned a tight affair into a 19-10 UMBC lead en route to a 25-20 set win. The final set was similar as the visitors held a slim 16-14 lead, but ended the set on a 9-2 run to win the set and match.

Aysia Miller flirted with her third triple-double of the season, finishing with six kills, nine assists and seven digs, while adding three aces and two blocks.

Mia Bilusic had a team-high 12 digs, and Serin Maden had 10 assists, nine digs, an ace, a block and a kill.

Emily Ferketic, Mila Ilieva, Michela De Marzi, Kamani Conteh and Bilusic all had kills for the Retrievers.
