Women's Basketball Hosts Colgate on Saturday Afternoon

Fresh off winning a four overtime thriller, the UMBC Women's Basketball team will play host to Colgate on Saturday afternoon.

The Retrievers and Raiders will tip-off at 1 p.m. on ESPN+ as the first game of a UMBC Basketball doubleheader. The Men's Basketball team hosts Marist at 3:30 p.m.

 Anna Blount, Laura Lacambra, Jaden Walker and Carmen Yánez all had career-best performances, as the UMBC Women's Basketball team outlasted visiting Gettysburg, 90-83, in four overtimes on Wednesday night.

The game was the longest in program history.

Blount, Walker and Yánez all posted double-doubles, while Lacambra recorded career-highs in points (10) and rebounds.

Blount finished with a career-high 29 points and added 11 rebounds, while Walker had 10 points, 13 rebounds and three steals, the latter two being career-bests.

Yánez, fresh off scoring a career-high 12 points at Towson on Monday, nearly had a triple double. The guard had 11 points and added a career high in both rebounds (11) and assists (eight).

Jordon Lewis had four points and a career-high four steals. Jaliena Sanchez also had four steals and added 16 points as well.

The Retrievers ended regulation on a 19-4 run to force overtime.

Scouting Colgate:
  • The last time the Retrievers faced the Raiders was on November 13, 2021, where the visiting Retrievers lost 61-52.
  • The Raiders finished last season in fourth place in the Patriot league with a 16-14 overall record.
  • The Raiders, picked third in the CAA preseason poll, started the season with a 71-60 win against Cornell.
  • Junior guard Taylor Golembiewski led the team with a game high 22 points.
  • Junior guard Morgan McMahon had 12 points and fifth-year guard Alexa Brodie had 11 points in the win against Cornell.
  • The Raiders return a core group while adding three freshmen for the 2023-24 season under head coach Ganiyat Adeduntan.
  • Colgate leads the all-time series 3-0
