Volleyball Welcomes Binghamton to The Peake on Thursday

The UMBC Volleyball team will host Binghamton on Thursday at 5 p.m. on ESPN+. The match will be the annual Pack the Peake match featuring a t-shirt giveaway for fans.

Freshman libero Hannah Howard was named the America East Rookie of the Week, the Conference announced on Tuesday morning.

Howard led UMBC with 16 digs to average 5.33 per set, as she anchored a defense that held NJIT to hitting only .059, including 0.0% in the first two sets.

 Mia Bilusic had 13 kills on .379 hitting as the visiting UMBC Volleyball team cruised to a sweep (25-13, 25-16, 25-19) over NJIT on Sunday afternoon.

The Retrievers defense was firing on all cylinders as they held the Highlanders to just .059 hitting for the match, including 0% hitting in each of the first two sets. No one on NJIT had more than six kills, while UMBC had four.

Kamani Conteh had 11, Julija Grubisic Cabo had six and Mila Ilieva also had six on .385 hitting.

Aysia Miller picked up a double-double with 20 assists and 11 digs.

Serin Maden added 18 assists and freshman Helen Frankovich had a career-high three kills on .600 hitting.

Grubisic Cabo and Bilusic had nine and eight digs respectively.

Frankovich, Ilieva and Michela De Marzi each also had solo blocks.

Scouting Binghamton:

  • The Bearcats are currently undefeated in conference going 4-0 with a recent sweep over UAlbany on Sunday.
  • Tsvetelina Ilieva leads in kills with 308 thus far, while Madison Konopka leads in digs with 218.
  • Ilieva is currently nationally ranked 13th for points (360) and 17th in kills (4.34 per set).
  • Binghamton took home two America East weekly awards with Ilieva earning Player of the Week and Lottie Scully earning Setter of the Week for the second consecutive time.
  • The Bearcats have added seven freshmen to the roster for the 2023 season under head coach Allie Yaeger.
The two teams split a pair of five-setters last season, with each team winning on the road
