Conteh's Career Day Leads Volleyball Past Delaware in Five-Set Thriller

BALTIMORE – A career-performance from Delaware-native Kamani Conteh (New Castle, Del.) helped lead the UMBC Volleyball team to a five-set victory over Delaware (25-20, 25-22, 24-26, 18-25, 15-8) on Sunday afternoon  

It was the first win for the Retrievers over the Blue Hens in 17 years, and the first home win over UD since 1996.

Conteh recorded a career-high 27 kills on a blistering .364 hitting in the match. She also reset her career-high for digs with 16.

Mia Bilusic (Zagreb, Croatia) finished with 19 kills, seven kills and three blocks (two solo). Bilusic also served during the pivotal 8-0 run to start the fifth set. Mila Ilieva (Vidin, Bulgaria) had nine kills with no errors (.643 hitting), three digs and two blocks.


Serin Maden (Ankara, Turkey) had a career-high 53 assists, while Weronika Wrzesinska (Frednowy, Poland) had a season-best 14 digs. 

Aysia Miller (Mililani, Hawaii) had a career-high 30 digs in the match. It was just the 17th time a Retriever recorded 30 digs in a match in the 50 years of program history.

UMBC (2-3) hit .295 in the match, while holding Delaware to .208 hitting. The Retrievers host James Madison on Friday at 6 p.m. A special pregame ceremony to unveil the 2021 America East Championship will take place prior to the game.
