BOSTON -- Junior libero Aysia Miller (Mililani, Hawaii) has been tabbed the America East Defensive Specialist of the Week, the Conference announced on Tuesday.

Miller finished with 21 digs (5.25 per set), six assists and two aces against Coppin State. This is Miller's second #AEVB Defensive Specialist of the Week honor.
 

The UMBC Volleyball (6-5) plays it final match before America East play gets underway on Wednesday, Sept. 28 when the American University Eagles (8-6) visit Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena. The action gets underway at 7:00 p.m. and the game broadcast is available on the America East Digital Network.  

RETRIEVER NOTEBOOK

·       Serin Maden had 46 assists and a career-high 12 digs, while Michela De Marzi added eight kills on .583 hitting and six blocks as the Retrievers ended Coppin State's seven-match winning streak with a four set victory (25-17, 20-25, 25-21, 25-10) on Sept. 20 at Coppin's Physical Education Complex Arena.

·       Mia Bilusic paced the offense with 19 kills on a blistering .324 hitting with nine digs and a season-best five blocks. Kamani Conteh added 17 kills and a career-high three aces.

·       The win snapped a brief two-match slide and they are 5-2 in their last seven outings.

·       Conteh was named America East Player of the Week on Sept. 20, prior to the match at Coppin State. She averaged 4.67 kills per set and hit .235 over three matches at the VCU Invitational.  

·       Maden earned three consecutive America East Setter of the Week honors, while Bilusic was tabbed as the Player of the Week on September 13.

·       UMBC currently leads America East in assists (12.36) and kills (13.4) per set.

·       Conteh (4.52) and Bilusic (4.27) and are 1-2 in the league in kills per set. Bilusic is also tops in services aces (0.59), while Maden is far and away the leader in assists at 10.45 assists per set through 44 sets in 2022.

·       Bilusic is 13th in the nation in services aces per set, while Maden is 29h in assists per set.   

 

A GLANCE AT THE EAGLES    

?      American is 8-6 on the season after Sunday's 3-1 loss at Navy.

?      Senior outside hitter Zeynep Uzen leads the Eagles with kills at 201.

?      Senior setter Inbal Peleg leads with assists at 332.

?      The Eagles last faced the Retrievers earlier this season at Bender Arena where they prevailed, 3-1.

?      Freshman Adelina Berisha led the Eagles against UMBC on Sept. 2, 2022 with 21 kills.

?      With the win, AU extended its winning streak to 12 against the Retrievers. They lead the all-time series, 22-3. UMBC's last victory occurred in 1996.
