Mila Ilieva (Vidin, Bulgaria) and
Michela De Marzi (Milan, Italy) had big days on offense as the UMBC Volleyball team opened the VCU Invitational with a four set win over Old Dominion (26-24, 25-20, 16-25, 25-18).
The Retrievers pushed their win streak to four in a row with the win.Â
Ilieva had 10 kills on .471 hitting with a career-high four aces, while De Marzi added six kills on .500 hitting in the victory.
Freshman
Serin Maden (Ankara, Turkey) had 46 assists and nine digs as UMBC (5-3) hit .460 on her sets. Libero
Aysia Miller (Mililani, Hawaii) added six assists to go with a match-best 16 digs.
Mia Bilusic (Zagreb, Croatia) and
Kamani Conteh (New Castle, Del.) each had 16 kills, with the latter adding eight digs.
Weronika Wrzesinska (Frednowy, Poland) contributed five kills and five digs, while
Emily Ferketic (Pittsburgh, Pa.) added five kills of her own.
The Retrievers face host VCU on ESPN+ tomorrow at 10 a.m., before concluding the tournament with a 3 p.m. match against North Carolina.
