BALTIMORE– UMBC women's soccer takes a two game win streak into Retriever Soccer Park on Thursday night when Delaware State comes to town. The Retrievers are coming off a 2-0 win at VMI on Saturday. Seniors
Natasha Munro (Burlington, Ontario) and
Caroline Koutsos (Boyds, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) scored for the Retrievers who outshot the Keydets, 22-9 in the contest.
NOTABLE:
- The Retrievers will look to open the month of September the way they ended August after defeating Wagner (2-1) and VMI (2-0) to end the month.
- Meghan McKye (Toronto, Ontario) leads the Retriever offense with two goals and one assist for five points.
- Graduate student Lola Negrete (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) is just behind McKye at four points on a goal and two assists.
- Goalkeeper Morgan McGruder (Overland Park, Kan.) has played every minute in net for the Retrievers this season. The senior has allowed six goals (1.50 GAA), making 17 saves for a .739 save percentage.
- UMBC can have their best start to a season since 2014 with a win on Thursday. Last year, the Retrievers started the year 2-1-2 through the first five games. In 2014 the team started 4-1-0.
A GLANCE AT THE HORNETS:
- Delaware State travels to Baltimore at 0-4 on the year and are coming off a 6-0 loss to Rider on Sunday. The Broncs scored a pair of goals just three minutes apart to take control of the match in the first half.
- The Hornets have scored just one goal so far this season off the foot of Kiarah Jones. Kaylen Goddard has a point on one assist.
- DSU finished the fall 2021 season at 3-11-1 last year.
ALL-TIME SERIES:
- This will be the ninth all-time meeting between the two schools with UMBC winning all eight of the previous matchups.
- Last fall, the Retrievers went to Dover and defeated the Hornets 5-1.
- UMBC has conceded just four goals in eight contests against Delaware State.
