Men's Swimming & Diving Announces 2022-23 Slate

The Retrievers hope to defend their America East crown at WPI in February

UMBC Head Swimming Coach Matt Donovan announced the 2022-23 men's swimming and diving schedule on August 30.

The squad opens the campaign on Saturday, Oct. 8 when they travel to Newark, Del. to face the host Blue Hens, along with Johns Hopkins at Rawstrom Natatorium.

After a meet at NJIT the following weekend – where the men will face St. Francis – Brooklyn along with America East foe NJIT – UMBC opens the home slate on Saturday, Oct. 22 when they welcome the Midshipmen from the United States Naval Academy.

"I'm so excited for our meet schedule for this upcoming season," said senior captain Niklas Weigelt. "The addition of dual meets with other America East schools is something new that will prepare us well for conference!"

After a week off, the Retrievers will face rival Towson at Burdick Pool on Nov. 5, then host VMI the following Saturday, Nov. 12.

UMBC will have three weeks to prepare for the ECAC Winter Championships, which will be held at the Nassau County Aquatics Center in East Long Meadow, N.Y. from Dec. 2-4.

The month of January features a rare home meet versus George Mason (Jan. 21) and a trip to the Bucknell Invitational (Jan. 28).

The Retrievers will compete in the 2023 America East Championships at WPI from Thursday, Feb. 22-Sunday, Feb. 25.

"I believe our team is ecstatic to begin our 2022-2023 season schedule," said senior captain Jimmy Dwyer. "The variety of both conference and non-conference opponents will be a unique and exciting experience for us this year."
