Lexington, Va.-- UMBC women's soccer used a pair of first half goals to defeat VMI 2-0 on Saturday for their second straight win. Natasha Munro (Burlington, Ontario) and Caroline Koutsos (Boyds, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) provided the goals as UMBC dominated possession for most of the match.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Natasha Munro got things going in the eighth minute with her first collegiate goal. Munro took a rebound off the post and slotted it home to give UMBC a 1-0 lead.
  • UMBC had another great chance off a set piece, but the header from Delainey Varela-Keen (Lancaster, Pa.) in the 15th minute sailed high.
  • Caroline Koutsos added a goal late in the first half to make it 2-0. She beat the VMI keeper past the near post from six yards out for her first goal of the season.
  • UMBC would take a 2-0 lead into halftime, outshooting the Keydets 19-4.
  • Binko had a great chance early in the second half off a cross from Munro, but her header went just wide in the 54th minute.
  • VMI had their best chance in the 75th minute off a set piece, but the shot sailed just over the bar.
  • UMBC shut down the Keydets offense down the stretch to win their second straight 2-0 on Saturday.
